Albert Smart founded Smart Metals in 1998. Having spent the earlier part of his career working for a major sheet metal company, Al decided to start his own company and specialized in providing complete turn-key supply of painted and silk screened sheet metal cabinets and components for key customers. Al developed strategic relationships with key suppliers and he became successful because of his passion for supplying high quality workmanship and outstanding service. Al's talents for problem-solving and cost reduction as well as his philosophy of continuous improvement were instilled in his entire team.

Al expanded his shop to its current location in the historic Pacific Mills complex in Lawrence, MA in 1999.

Sadly, Al passed away in January of 2008. The long-time Operations Manager, Mark Cavarretta, continues as the head of operations and with new investments, he and the new President, Gary Carling, have ambitious plans for the future of Smart Metals and have already begun to implement improvements to the process and facility.
